TH blanket club - pack 1

Wow, am I a sucker for a good yarn club. :) This is the Truly Hooked crochet along for 2016 - 9 packs of hand dyed, squishable goodness delivered to my door for me to make a blanket out of. What better way to break in my new sewing box Christmas gift from my brother in law? (Seriously - I absolutely love this sewing box!!) There is a choice of cotton or merino wool, with optional extra skeins for joining your blanket or separating out your colours. I opted for merino - how could I resist the squish? - and extra undyed yarn for joining.

It took me a very long time to decide exactly which pattern to use, but as I really like squares (and am apparently a masochist who wants extra joining work and a million extra ends to sew in) I have opted for this 'sunny spread' pattern from the Red Heart website: here

The idea behind the club is to add one colour to your blanket every week, for six weeks until you get your next pack of six. Unfortunately, just as much as I am a masochist for sewing in ends, I am also weak willed. I received my first pack a week ago and I am already done.... Ooops!! The first pack was a lovely range of blues and cool greys. I couldn't resist the squishability, and as soon as I first felt the yarn I HAD to use it... I got tqo circle-squares out of each colour, and I have enough yarn left over to make a smaller, matching blanket. For extra cozy nights on the sofa, obviously. :D

The pattern is easy enough, although it claims to be an 'intermediate' level pattern. I really wouldn't let that put you off though, if you're feeling unsure. It is quite easy, and works up very quick! Each square takes me about an hour to finish, including weaving in my ends. (See? I'm being good this time! Well.....mostly....) I don't plan on sewing them together just yet, as I don't know what colours are yet to come. I know that's the point, but I really don't want to put two colours next to each other that just don't match! And I really don't like having same colours touching each other! Silly, huh?
